Aftershock
Aftershock is our second robot with an active weapon. This time it is a full pressure co2 pneumatic flipper which should flip another robot clean into the air instead of rolling them over like Shockwave.
Aftershock used to be Cutlet 540 but we changed the name after we bought cutlet in august 2007 along with 4 baa 4. We have given it a full makeover so that it is within the current rules and to make it a bit more competitve against the new robots.
Aftershock underwent an extensive rebuild during May 2008 to bring it under the weight limit. We replaced most of the steel chassis with HDPE covers and changed some of the pneumatics to lighter fittings with a larger bore which increased the speed of the flipper. It now gets around 40 flip with 35 of them having enough power to self right.
Since it's rebuild it has been to 7 events reaching 6 finals and has won 4 of them including the Robots Live! Reading event and the Roaming Robots 2008 Winter Tour in Maidstone!!
Event Record
Robo Challenge- Thinktank- Aftershocks first event and it did surprisingly well winning 3 fights and flipping 3 robots OOTA. However the flipper arm sustained some serious damage thanks to Hornet and Aftershock weighed 15.8kg (2.2kg overweight).
Roaming Robots- Barnesly- Still overweight so it could only enter the whiteboard fights. Also it was far too fast to control so it didn't do very well.
Robot Rumble- Colchester- It was still overweight but the improvements to the drive system helped, it won a fight with 21 robots in it- Aftershock's best fight to date where it performed brilliantly.
Robots Live!- National Space Centre- the first event for the rebuilt Aftershock- it won the competition after beating Skink and Whirlpool in the final.
UK Championships- Derby- Finally within the weight limit! After a very lucky first round Afterhock had a great second round, throwing Annihalation out of the arena after only 8 seconds! Aftershock was then knocked out of the competition by Beauty 3 in round 3.
Roaming Robots- Guildford- The new Aftershock is on top form winning the competition in good style flipping its opponents around the arena and into the pit, it also entered in 2 whiteboard fights and won both of them- a very good event for Aftershock!
Roaming Robots WT round 1- Portsmouth- Aftershock had several good fights and made the final but lost on a judges decision.
Robots Live!- Reading- Aftershock won its first round fight with lots of good flips and flipped Tuff Luck 2 OOTA on the way. In the final Aftershock continued flipping everything and won on a judges decision.
Roaming Robots- WT round 2- Nottingham- Once again Aftershock made the final but lost again, however it gained enough points to qualify for the final of the tour at Maidstone.
Roaming Robots- WT FINAL- Maidstone- After entering a whiteboard to check everything was working, Aftershock was in the final of the 2008 winter tour, the fight started well with some good flips on Skink and Mini Mighty Mouse, throughout the fight, Aftershock got plently of flips in and in the last 10 seconds immobilised Skink. The judges then decided that Aftershock had won!!
