Team Shock Website

Shockwave was our first robot to have an active weapon. It is a simple 2WD robot with a 10bar low pressure pneumatic flipper powered by co2. It is made out of aluminium and polycarbonate and has so far been very reliable and with the recent additions of a buffer tank, a very effective flipper.

Work started during the may/june 1/2 term and Shockwave was in battle condition within a week. After the XFM event it was clear that some improvement would have to be made to the pneumatics to increase the flipper power. By increasing the size of the ram and pipe throughout the system we were able to get a better flip, with the addition of the buffer tank the flipper now works very well.

 Our next modifications with include a larger valve to help increase the speed of the flipper and changing the RC smart speed controllers to a scorpion XL for better control. We are also looking at getting some better armour on the sides to allow Shockwave to fight spinners

XFM Ipswich 2007- Shockwaves first event- Shockwave did really well for its first outing getting enough points in the initial rounds to get through to the semis (flipping Tuff Luck OOTA on the way). However it met Little Flipper in the semis and was flipped out after only 12 seconds! Shockwaves best moment had to be when it flipped 3 robots into the pit at once.

 Robots Live! Exeter 2007- Shockwave once again did really well getting through to the final where it was pitted by DB5- 6th Place

Robots Live! Hemel Hempstead- Shockwave lost in the competition heats after being thrown OOTA by Little Flipper after only 13 seconds!! Shockwave got its revenge in the whiteboards though winning two.

Roaming Robots Portsmouth- Another great event for Shockwave winning 2 fights and getting its long awaited revenge on Skink for beating us so many times before.

Roaming Robots Maidstone- Shockwave had a couple of great fights and even beat the European Champion Beauty on an audience vote.

Roaming Robots Nottingham- Shockwave got to the final of the winter tour after a lucky judges decision in the semi. However the flipper froze very early on leaving us to come 4th overall. Still not bad for our first year.- 4th Place
