Whirlpool

Whirlpool was our first competitive robot. It was built during Feb 2007. We bought an old chassis off of the Mirco Maul team and then set about rebuilding it. The polycarbonate and titanium chassis was very strong and gave us a good place to start. We then added 4, 12volt cordless drill motors with 75mm diameter robochallenge wheels with 2, 50 Amp RC smart speed controllers. For our first event we used the Ni-cad batteries from the drills but we soon upgraded to 12volt Ni-Mh packs from model power. Other upgrades have included the scorpion XL speed controller (which improved the control), 15.6volt batteries (for more speed and pushing power) and the radio controlled blue LEDs (because they looked nice).
